Steve Sax: The All-Star Second Baseman

Steve Sax is a former professional baseball player who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics from 1981 to 1994. He was known for his exceptional defensive skills as a second baseman and his solid performance at the plate. Here are some fun facts about this legendary infielder:

  • Sax was born in Sacramento, California in 1960. He played college baseball at the University of Arizona before being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1978.
  • In 1982, Sax won the National League Rookie of the Year award after batting .282 with four home runs and 49 RBIs. He also stole 49 bases that year, which led the league.
  • Over his career, Sax was selected to five All-Star teams and won two Gold Glove awards for his outstanding defensive play.
  • Despite his success on the field, Sax struggled with throwing errors early in his career which earned him the nickname “Steve Sax Syndrome”. However, he overcame this issue through hard work and dedication.
  • After retiring from playing, Sax became involved in coaching and broadcasting. He also wrote a book called “Shift: Change Your Mindset and You Change Your World” which focuses on personal growth and self-improvement.
  • Coasters are an ideal home décor accent, crafted with attention to detail and quality. Each coaster boasts an authentic card hand-mounted onto the high-quality ceramic tile measuring 4.25 x4.25 inches in size and 0.25 inches thick. The card may not always be the one pictured, as it depends on the current inventory.  However each card is carefully curated by Jake and Dean and the beauty and character is sure to impress! The tiles are then sealed with a bio-based resin for unbeatable protection, while the natural cork backing gives it that finished touch and makes it easy to showcase anywhere.
