Fun facts about Joe Jacoby

  1. Joe Jacoby was a former NFL offensive lineman who played for the Washington Redskins from 1981 to 1993. He was named to the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team and was inducted into the Redskins Ring of Honor in 2003. Jacoby is widely regarded as one of the greatest offensive linemen of all time, making four Pro Bowl appearances, two first-team All-Pro selections and helping the Redskins to three Super Bowl victories during his tenure with the team.
  2. Standing at 6’7” tall and weighing 290 pounds, Jacoby had a massive build which made him an ideal tackle in both run blocking and pass protection schemes. He was especially adept at run blocking, often opening up gaping holes for Redskins running backs such as John Riggins, Gerald Riggs and Earnest Byner to exploit when opposing defenses failed to do their job against him. His strength and size enabled him to singlehandedly eliminate defenders on certain occasions while still providing support in double-teams as well.
  3. Alongside guard Russ Grimm, center Jeff Bostic and right tackle Mark May, Jacoby formed “The Hogs” – one of the most dominant offensive lines in NFL history throughout the span of their successful careers together in Washington. During their decade together they were instrumental in leading Washington to three Super Bowl titles (Super Bowl XVII, XXII & XXVI).
  4.
