  1. Cal Ripken Jr. is a former Major League baseball player and Hall of Fame infielder who played 21 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles from 1981-2001.
  2. He was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland on August 24th, 1960.
  3. During his career, he won a staggering 19 consecutive All-Star Game selections from 1983-2001 as well as two AL MVP awards (1983 & 1991) and two Gold Glove awards (1991 & 1992).
  4. Ripken was renowned for his durability and famously ended Joe DiMaggio’s record streak of 56 consecutive games played by playing in 2,632 straight games – a feat which has not yet been surpassed!
  5. He was also a respected leader in the clubhouse and became known as “The Iron Man” due to his incredible work ethic and commitment to the game of baseball – earning him induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 with 99.53% of votes cast!
  6. Since his retirement, Ripken has since gone on to become an accomplished author, philanthropist and successful businessman through the Cal Ripken Jr Foundation which raises money for charities across America that support youth baseball programs!
