  1. Billy Ripken is a former Major League baseball player and the brother of Hall of Fame infielder Cal Ripken Jr.
  2. He was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland on December 16th, 1964.
  3. Billy played for 12 seasons in the Major Leagues, spending time with the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers between 1987-1998.
  4. Billy earned his nickname “Billy The Kid” during his playing days and was known for being an aggressive hitter who often took risks at the plate.
  5. He was also a respected defensive shortstop who earned a reputation as one of the best fielders in the American League during his time in the Majors – winning two Fielding Bible Awards in 1989 and 1995.
  6. He retired after 12 seasons with a career batting average of .257 and a total of 883 hits over 1,744 games played.
